Kelly Rowan may have played a wealthy wife on the American teen soap The O.C., but the role was nothing compared to the life she could soon be living as the spouse of Canadian billionaire David Thomson, estimated to be the 10th richest man in the world.
Rowan and Thomson are engaged to be married and will walk down the aisle later this year, Rowan's publicist, Jennifer Plante, said Wednesday from New York. Rowan was not available for further comment.
Thomson, 51, is the son of the late Ken Thomson and chair of The Thomson Corp. He has an estimated $20 billion (U.S.) in assets.
He and Rowan, 41, an Ottawa native, met last year and she reportedly moved into his Toronto estate in recent weeks.
"Their family and friends couldn't be happier for them," a source close to the couple told People magazine, adding: "She's really happy."
Rowan portrayed the well-heeled Kirsten Cohen on the Fox prime-time soap The O.C. for more than three years. The series ended in February.
Thomson is the father of three children – two teenaged girls from his first marriage, and an infant son from his second union.
The baby, Benjamin, is Thomson Corp.'s designated heir.
The blond and lanky Thomson is reclusive, seldom granting interviews to the media and maintaining a low public profile.
In a rare interview given to James FitzGerald, who wrote a book in 1994 about Upper Canada College, the elite Toronto private school they both attended, Thomson was scornful of the business world.
"When you try to live a more balanced life, traditional businessmen think that you are not a real man. But who is not the real man? You are telling me? You have not taken a weekend with your wife, you have no spare time that you use constructively, you do not have any hobbies, you do not know how to spell Mozart. And here you are telling me that I am weak?" he says in "Old Boys: The Powerful Legacy of Upper Canada College."
Rowan is scheduled to shoot a TV movie this week on Lake Simcoe, north of Toronto.
In an interview in January, Rowan said she was craving a break from the tough pace of making a TV show and working on other projects, including the made-for-TV film about polygamy, In God's Country, that aired on CTV in the winter.
"They were projects that I really wanted to do and so it was worth it, but now I'm a little tired. I might take a vacation," she said. "I might take at least a couple weeks off ... Maybe I'll do a couple of projects and then take some time for travelling, just take some time for me."
Actress PAMELA ANDERSON has hinted she is romantically involved with Las Vegas illusionist HANS KLOK. The Baywatch star, whose divorce from second husband Kid Rock was finalised earlier this year (07), is currently performing as Dutchman Klok's assistant in his Planet Hollywood Hotel + Casino show, The Beauty Of Magic. And it seems Klok has worked his magic on the mother-of-two. Speaking on U.S. TV show Today on Wednesday (20Jun07), "I am (in love with him). Hans is special. And he's Dutch. My mother's part-Dutch so she's very happy about this."
Catherine and Michael are still crazy about each other
Catherine Zeta Jones has said she'll never split from hubby Michael Douglas, revealing that they are closer than ever.
Welsh-born Catherine, 37, who married Hollywood star Michael in a dream New York wedding in 2000, said she fell for her husband as soon as she saw him.
"I fell in love with my husband at first sight and I still feel the same way. I'll never get divorced, never," she told Harper's Bazaar.
In the interview, quoted by OK!, Catherine said fidelity is "in the genes".
"I grew up in a small Catholic fishing village. The people there stick together more. My parents have been married more than 40 years and that's a great blueprint," she said.
Mum-of-two Catherine, who has lived the Hollywood dream since appearing in hit TV series The Darling Buds Of May, added that the secret to her happy marriage was spending plenty of quality time together.
"Michael and I work at having time together because you can get consumed. The lights are out, the kids are finally snoring, but so are we," she said.
"So from time to time we'll drop the kids off with my parents in Wales and go on a boat trip or play golf - just have fun. It's important to spend some time by ourselves."
The couple live in Bermuda with their two children, son Dylan and daughter
Carys.

BOSTON -- The Vatican has reversed the annulment of former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II's first marriage, nearly a decade after the church's original decision prompted a scathing book by his ex-wife.
Sheila Rauch on Wednesday confirmed a report on Time magazine's Web site that her appeal of the annulment to Rome has succeeded.
"I'm very grateful that the marriage was validated," Rauch told The Associated Press.
"The (original) annulment decision totally overlooked the fact that I felt that we had a very strong marriage in the beginning, we had two wonderful children, and it lasted," Rauch said. "I was certainly happy in the beginning ... things unraveled, but that doesn't mean you didn't have a marriage."
Rauch sharply criticized the church for annulling her marriage in a 1997 book, "Shattered Faith," with Rauch alleging the Kennedy family's influence in the Catholic church had made it possible for Kennedy to get an annulment, even though the couple had twin boys together and were married for 12 years.
They were granted a civil divorce in 1991. Rauch said she found out about the annulment only after Kennedy married his former Congressional aide, Beth Kelly, in a civil ceremony in 1993.
Rauch said she was told of the Vatican's decision in May by officials from the Boston Archdiocese, although the decision was actually reached in 2005.
A spokeswoman for Kennedy had no immediate comment. Terry Donilon, a spokesman for the Boston Archdiocese, declined comment. "Such matters are appropriately private and confidential," he said.
